  • ***TECH TREE***: Volunteer Needed!

I've obviously run into some snags with running the Tech Tree list. If anybody is willing, most of the work is done (though there's still a long way to go). The idea here is at the very least make an awesome--and the only--list of dates for wonders, discoveries, etc. This could be of great use to us just from a knowledge perspective and, who knows, perhaps Firaxis might be inspired to use it in some cool way.

So anybody willing to invest the time in finishing this project should please contact me. You will, of course, be given proper credit for helping put the pieces together.

    Harel! Once again... HUGE thanks!

Well, let me know how I can help you. There are currently two main threads, the discussion one and the compiled one. The discussion one hasn't be summarized in the compiled list for several weeks now. Or maybe you'd like to run it a different way?

Just let me know. Thanks again!!!!

Why do you stick by just talking about the old techs? Make up new ones! Wouldn't you want an expanded and bigger tech tree in civ3?

I agree that would be fun, but I was hoping to get "the basics" down first. Perhaps you and Harel can start work on another Tech Tree though?

I been meaning to bring that point up Yin... we should really consider adding some of the more popular and well known suggestions from the technology list.
I mean, some serious things which can't be ignored are missing from Civ II list... we got to add those up...

Yin, I made post today right beneath yours about the swap of Alphabet with Writing because the tech tree has their order of invention backwards. I wish I could change the title so maybe more people wouldl ook at it. Well, I hope it helps.

                Harel,

I agree with you. The trick now is to update that sucker...which hasn't been done in a while. Are you up for it?

                Laszlo,

Thanks for the heads up. Hopefully Harel (or I) will update the list soon. If we haven't fixed the problem by that update, please yell again and keep us honest.

Yin, I assume all you need it a rewrite of the list, and patching up all the empty holes, right? And if someone is using VERY broad terms, try to pinpoint it further.
However, I must say I question a great deal of the dates, even those I gave... for example, I put the first courts in Egypt, since those are the first we FORMERLY know that existed... but I guess they had national courts well before that... I mean, every nation gota have a court, even if it's a formal tribemans that does the judging... and so on... our dates our too broad ( for example, putting "code of law" to the first formal "eye for an eye" law ), it just sounds, well, stressed.
Maybe we should try to find several other plaussible dates and list all of them toghter?

                    Harel,

That's exactly my feeling as well. We simply post all the dates we get and they debate them if we have to. I got pretty far along before hitting a wall, but now with your seemingly endless energy maybe this thing might get completed afterall.

...if you still need another volunteer,
perhaps I can help. (Specialist in Philosophy, Physics and Engineering)

                        Stefan,

We can ALWAYS use another volunteer, especially one with your background! Harel just signed on, so I'm not exactly sure what he has done/plans to do, but an easy place to start would be to look at the Tech Tree thread below and see what's missing and start there.

Once we have all the dates in front of us, we can write it up in some nice form, debate it for a while, and then put it to use. Anyway, if you have another way you'd like to help, I'm all ears (eyes).

                        Thanks!

Yin, what I am just NOW about to do, is to take the list we allready got now and rewrite in a more coherent fashion. Then I will separte all dates into two groups:
Passable: which are either nailed in stone or good enough or still need some work.
                          Expect it later today.

Then, I will be happy to work with stefan.

You are truly amazing, my friend. Between You, Stefan and me, things might get done (mainly because of you at this point ).

Yin, I oppened up the thread. I only managed to put wonders for now, but I plan to catch up on the rest soon.
Stephan, you can post your comments/changes on what I allready listed, ok?
