  • Somone please give me defence per terrain

    WHen I was playing as a the Chinese, I amassed 9 Riders, and attacked the Egyptians, I thougth to my self, "man, there is no way they can win! Their three movement and attack should dominate their spearman." All my Riders were veterans, and their soldiers were spearman. Now, when I started the assualt, I went for a small town and then went to the capital. When I attacked the capital, ONE spearman who was a reg defeated TWO of my riders, this is impossible I thought. I ended up getting the capital, with the lsoe of SIX riders, that was all bull**** to lose that much. and they made a counter attack, and my last two riders were barley able to keep the city, and they wuld not respond to me, please, give me the defence ratios for terrain, I discovered this by listenign to your comments, and looking at the Civopedia. Please help!!

    Seems ok to me, granted, you were somewhat unlucky,
    but nothing to complain about here.

    riders = 4
    spearman = 2
    fortified = + 25%
    capitol = 50% IIRC (city defense)
    terrain = at least 10 %
    river? = 25?%
    --> spearman = around 3.5 to 4

    so those arn't impossible odds IMO

    btw: terrain defense bonuses are in the civilopedia
    good luck (and look for other threads 'bout this very subject )

    Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing?

      Ronald,

      There are a lot of threads about this...

      Here's the good news, from Carver at CFC:

      Civ3 does not use a true RNG (random number generator). Over time, it has to balance out wins and losses so that units perform more or less at their stats. So, if there a lot of streaks where defenders outperform, there has to be balancing streaks where attackers outperform.

      MY advice: Use more attackers. I have used Knights to take down 12-pop cities defended with 4 Musketmen... but I went at it with like 20 Knights!
      The greatest delight for man is to inflict defeat on his enemies, to drive them before him, to see those dear to them with their faces bathed in tears, to bestride their horses, to crush in his arms their daughters and wives.

        Only because there is no such thing on a PC. All computer RNGs are inherently only psuedo-random. Firaxis has said they are using a standard C library generator. Streaks are inherent in random numbers even if you use a radioactive source generator to get true random numbers. If there are no streaks then someone is fudging the numbers.
