I have to admit, I still play my original (1996) copy of Civ2. There is one thing I do though, use the 2.82 (2.62 - whatever ) patch and my little personal tweaks.

It always bothered me that you can have SDI 2 weeks after Manhattan project, way before Stealth. So I changed two things. Laser gives Stealth and Superconductor gives SDI, opposite to the original game. I thought that made more sense.

I also use the hovercraft (blueprint for it is included in the readme file).

Any more ideas on the little things that need tweaking?

The last time I played CivII, it was to beat the computer on Deity level.

That was a fun game. But now it seems time to move on.

Man! I will be a great day when something new is released.

Double post, although I don't know how that happened!

Tech discovery rate is always way to fast.

Also I sometimes double the road movement multiplyer.
Once I doubled the movement of all units.
(a tank taking 5 years to move from germany to france? no wonder WWII was so long... )

Once I gave each tile one extra shield. that was nice with cities producing up to 90 and some even over a hundred shields per turn.

I made rifle man obsolete once by marines once by alpine troops whom I always leave in cities in moder times, and once by Mech Inf.

I made Leonardo's workshop last forever (oh, so unfair! but the computer nations always have zillions of tanks the same turn they've discovered them. I wonder how? )

I raised the city size when aqua\sewer is needed.

        I changed nations' characteristics.

I changed nations' colors so I could play with germans and french and greeks and english and russians and romans at the same time.

I changed names of attitudes and labels of power (ie "Mighty, Pityfull" to 1st 2nd) and labels of how trust worthy you are so I could understand it better. When in war I may forget words in english that no one ever uses.

I changed the rows in food box and shield box without knowing what tihs does (oh my).

I changed how much settlers eat and how much citizens eat.

I changed mass/thrust paradigm, fundamentalism science rate, time for engineer to transform terrain, fundamentalism support rates.

I changed paradrop distance to 20 (that was fun).

I changed labels of the game to include me as the owner of the game and the head of development team.

In civ 1, I completely rewrote the creation storry making it humoristic memmos.

But now I play with civ 2.42 with only the labels for power and trust changed. That is as far as I remember but I have a feeling that there are tweakings I made and forgot to undo .

Where can I download the 2.62 (or 2.82) patch?
Or is it Civ MP Gold ir ToT?

I haven't done quite as much tweaking. Though I did replace the Aztecs with a civilization called the Victorians. This allowed me not to have to think about city names each time until late in the game (and my list was twice as long as the others too )

I also changed the road multiplier to 4.

That is about the sum total of all my tweaks.

            1. A tweak would be a screwdriver thing, not a powerdrill

            2. Did I mention I gave nukes a range of 35... makes them intercontinental and more devastating.

            3. Oh, how I remember changing the opening titles in Civ1. I forgot about that. I remember my friends when I started it up... hehe

The biggest change that needs to be made in Civ III in my mind is movement rates. I hate spending 100s of years in a war that is only taking that long because it takes 10 turns (200 years) to move across the continent. Maybe turns should be shorter from the get go or something else, but that might take to long and get quite repetitive and slow.
