Cross Plattform Civ3

I suppose Civ 3 will be available on Win, Linux, Mac and possible other OS's.
Will the realtime Multiplayer game support all these plattforms playing each other? (-> dont use Direct Play from MS)
Also: Is development being done with cross platform products in mind? (I hope so
