When you select a wonder from the build list, the number of turns it says will generally be more than the number actually required to produce the wonder, especially early in the game. This is because the number of turns is calculated based on the assumption that the city will continue to produce shields at its current rate, which is ludicrous. The city will increase its population, and the new citizens will contribute more shields. In addition, the terrain arround the city may be mined as well, further increasing shield production.

It would be nice if the game could give a "smart" estimate of turns-till-completion in addition to the current "dumb" one. It should be fairly easy to calculate how many turns it takes to build something, assuming: the player does not move the city's laborers from where the game places them, terrain is not improved, military units are not moved in or out of the city, and the city is not connected to any new luxuries. Sure, it would be a harder calculation than the current one, and likely still inaccurate, but it would be less inaccurate, especially for big projects like wonders.
