Worked my way up from Chiefton to Emperor winning. So voted Emperor. Haven't tried diety yet. Have to kick more butt or Emperor before stepping up.

Regent on a regular basis now. However, I did win one Monarch game by the skin of my teeth... it was a diplo win. I was about to lose to a war when I built the UN. Talk about an excellent plan B.

"I'm curious to see how the bell curve forms." (Platykurtic? - just kidding)

Interesting - the distribution is one would expect from a non-normal distribution. Are we abnormal? (or just an overly experienced sample).
Many are cold, but few are frozen. No more durrian, please. On On!

Naa, just a bunch of liars and hipocrites. The truth is, and everyone will kill me for letting out everyone's secrect, NOT ONE person has been able to get past Cheiftan.

Sadly, the highest I've won is Regent. But I'm only a casual gamer, so it hardly matters anyway.

The last full game I played I beat on deity. Since then, I haven't played civ much at all, though.

I haven't played anything else than Regent so far... Started on it (yes, it was NOT a very good idea to start on Regent... ) and still playing it - it is challenging enough for me, as I consider myself a casual player only... I have been able to win with Romans, Egyptians, Greeks, and Babylonians so far...

BTW - the distribution seems pretty Gaussian to me now... that is how I'd expect it to be.

I'll most often win emperor games.

Once I've gotten to know the game fairly well (after about 1,5 month) and after intense playing, I've sticked to emperor games longtime.

Meanwhile I've beaten deity two times (out of approx. 10 attempts in a row). Playing deity is not much fun at all and luck (starting location, early wars or not, AI stances toward you, ...) plays a major role.

                    Emperor rules !

                    (and deity can be overcome)

                    - emperor level all time
                    - I'm back !!! (too...)

Most games I play either at Monarch (fun games, win rate 100%) or Emperor (challenge games, win rate maybe 2 out of 3). I have beaten Deity, but I don't consider it fun and entertainment... maybe I'm not masochist enough .

My answer is virtually identical to Sir Ralphs except that I have only tried deity a few times and quit when I judged my starting position to be untenable (ie 20 aztecs swarming around by 3500BC).
We need seperate human-only games for MP/PBEM that dont include the over-simplifications required to have a good AI

Someone on another thread indicated that others were saying there was little difference between levels. Depends on the levels. I'd say that
                            1. The difference between Monarch and Emperor is that on Emperor you have to grovel and play catch up on most occasions until well into the industrial age. On Monarch, you can be more commanding.
                            2. On Diety, you can't play catch up. They simply run away from you.

So, I flip flop from Monarch to Emperor and back. Diety might be a possible win, but I'd need to pop a settler from a goody hut and get lucky in having the AI civs at war with each other the whole game while I putter along in democracy. With my skills, Diety is not a challenge, but rather an exercise in mascochism.
