  • Forbidden Palace location

OK. It's probably been asked but i just can't find it: is the location of the Forbidden Palace important ?

Do i have to build it far from the capital for the cities on the outskirt of the "empire" to benefit from it or can i build it next to the capital (much faster of course) and get the same results?
    What?

The position is actually all that matters. It acts like a regular palace, so the further away you put it, the better.

That's what i've been doing but i always wondered if i was just wasting time/resources.
      What?

In some ways the location of the forbidden palace is more important than the palace (which can be moved)
We need seperate human-only games for MP/PBEM that dont include the over-simplifications required to have a good AI

i try and build the FP near a moutain range to get the most out of those shields. if you build it in a city thats all grassland you end up with a city that gives you lots of commerce but still wont produce very much. some games ill build it 2 cities away from my capital so i can have a major production center in the center of my empire, if the situation is right. sometimes i wont build it untill i take over a mountain range. maybe im doing it all wrong but i love massive production!

There can be situations where you want to build the FP near your palace and then replace the palace somewhere at the border later. As SpencerH said, the FP can't be moved, so it's location must be well planned, but the location of the palace is flexible and therefore I move it if necessary.

Never thought about that. How does that work? A palace produces 1 culture point per turn, are the ones produced in the former capital (e.g. 1000 at 3000BC) really gone or is the production just moved to the new city?

Yes You lost. Producing in new place begins from zero. Each thousend years Culture points doubles. But if You are warmonger, no matter. When cannons speak, muses silent...

Thanks for the info. I guess that explains why I haven't won a cultural victory yet, although I build quite a lot of improvements and wonders.

Somehow, in my last games I started with my Capitol near the ocean, or on edge of the continent. If geography allows, you should try to expand to have cities all around your Capital, in all directions, for that's more efficient.

Not that would allow it to happen, but what happens when another civ takes the city where you've build the forbidden palace in? Are you then able to build it again in another city?

B.T.W. it would be great if you could takes other civ's cities with their fp in it You could have several great production places all over the map.

I'm pretty sure that the AIs' small wonders would b gone if u take the cities they're in. I don't remember seeing any small wonder notification when I take the AI cities.

So that goes for FP too since I think it's a small wonder too.

Haven't happened to me, however, I am 95% confident you can rebuild it.

Proof: I've had a city with another small wonder captured, and I was offered to rebuild it later.

I've never been notified when I take the AI's FP, but it (like all small wonders) would be destroyed upon capture.

I tested the FP rebuild a while back, by abaonding my FP city. Could immediately rebuild the FP in another city.
