  • UU: You know what's stupid?

I sincerely doubt I am the first person to realize this....BUT-

India's UU is the war elephant (instead of the knight)and 'requires no natural resources to build'

    BUT

A luxury resource is Ivory (which is symbolized by elephants on the map).

Don't you think in order for India to build it's war ELEPHANTS, it should have Ivory in it's empire?

    I do.

Sorry for this meager, trivial request for an ounce of reality...but I'm just sayin.

That would violate the whole strategic/luxary resource dichotimy. There's so many other points the game can be improved that this isnt even worth posting about.

Thanks Pythag, but this post wasn't meant to be earth-shattering or top the list of improvements for the game.

By the way, I went to UVa and I'd rather slit my wrists, clip my heels and stab myself in the ear with a letter opener than set foot on the VaTech campus. Even the chicken-factory that is JMU is preferable to your school. Now go jangle your keys in someone else's thread.

IW, don't ever get pissed off at me in MP!!

To answer your post, I and a lot of others think that resources could be a little more complex.

Don;t worry, I'm sure they will be once the modders can really get to work.

I don't know that Ivory should be needed because war elephants aren't made from Ivory. However, it makes sense to perhaps have something else needed for their UU.

EEEK! Remind me not to consider any post-grad offering from this school!

Indeed. I can list about eighty or more complaints higher on the list than this one.

You might say elephants can be IMPORTED from Burma or Thailand or the like, but that ivory needs to be traded and thus has to be indigenous. Or something.

YOU ALL MISS THE REAL PROBLEMS:

In the game Firaxis continues to insist that elephants (but not leaders!) can be airlifted - too ludicrous to comment further on.

In the game Elephants have an absurdly high defense factor of '3' - as high as rifle-armed Cavalry!! Elephants were terrible in defense in reality: Edit them by giving them a '1' defense but lowering their shield cost.

Why is this absurd? Ever attacked an elephant with a sword or a spear? Bet it's pretty hard and scary to do so. Especially, with bowmen on top of the elephant.

Actually it's pretty easy to rush in and stab them in the sides... then they panic and go out of control. Elephants were most effective for the sheer fear factor, once the armies fighting them learned to deal with that, their weaknesses were exposed.

Which would account for why it goes obsolete, along with all the other ancient era units.

Yes, elephants were just for show, there were extremely easy methods of countering them, so they were hardly ever used in warfare. Simple wooden stakes infront of them works, a thick hide won't stop a stake through the weak part, the bottom of there foot. Especially with all the weight.

Ok, but I dont hate your school. My grandad went to UVA and I wanted to go there much of my life. My grandfather became very wealthy and gave a lot of money to UVA. I most likely could have gotten in, but it didnt feel right when I visited. Not to mention tech has a very good engineering program. Also I like going to a huge school that has its own golf course, farms, and stuff to do.

I can understand criticizing Tech for being conservative and having a heavy campus crusade for christ influence, but thats ussually only present in students, and its nice to have a conservative/liberal balance. Its also funny to have the religous guys trying to convert you right next to the credit card guys giving you free stuff to get their card.

In any case, criticizing the merits of one's school instead of using critical reasoning to get at an argument is deplorable.

Simpleton- He's just saying that cause there's an intense rivalry between UVA and VA Tech.

And with the issue at hand:

Limiting the indian UU any more would make it a million times more the sham that it is. Youd barely have any advantage over the knight unit. And maybe all the ivory comes from walruss
