  • City Defense Bonus While in Resistance?

I've searched the threads and can't find an answer (and don't recall ever knowing for certain the answer from some other source).

Do your units get the city or metropolis defense bonuses if the city in which they are garrisoned is in resistance?

I don't believe your units receive any defensive bonuses while the city is undergoing resistance. Of course, I forget exactly where I heard this, but it does make since.

You're units DO in fact receive the bonus.
To us, it is the BEAST.

Really? Can you tell me where you have read/heard this Sava? Thanks

I've played the game about a thousand times ... it's obvious you get the bonus when you get attacked and your units do better than they would in the open.
To us, it is the BEAST.

Catt, what makes you think they don't?

I've never seen a reference to this.

The only reason I question whether you do or don't is, in replaying a certain game , I used marines to conquer several coastal cities. I then moved transports with mech infantry (among other things) into the newly captured cities. Because I was able to unload my units directly from a transport into the city, I had preserved all of their movement points. I then fortified these units. The captured cities were all "Cities" (pop 7-12) and in one case a Metropolis (pop 13+). I figure that a mech infantry, fortified, in a city has a defense value of 32 (base 18 + 50% for city + 25% for fortified) ignoring the possibility that the cities were on hills / across rivers. Nonetheless, when the AI counter-attacked with mech infantry (12 attack) I was losing approximately one mech inf for every 1.5 or so attacking mech inf -- somewhat off what one would expect if the city/metro bonus were available. Granted, this was a very small sample size (+/- 30 - 40 individual battles), but it just got me to thinking about the defense values (especially since I really can't recall losing more than an occasional mech inf to an attacking mech inf in my own "native cities" and I expect to lose a bunch of tanks (attack 16) if attacking a healthy mech inf fortified in a city.)

**This is not a complaint -- I like the fact that combat is uncertain and that the proverbial spearman can sometimes (rarely) beat the tank -- I just want to understand the mechanics of the game **

[shameless bump since Firaxian's seem to be / may be soon perusing the boards -- particularly with the patch coming soon]

                    Thank you, Soren.

(For the answer, but also for the very enjoyable game and very engaging AI).
