  • War weariness and social upheaval

Has anyone ever had their republic/democracy overthrown due to war weariness?

I was wondering if something was possible. For example, say your govt. is overthrown due to WW. You switch to monarchy. Being a religious civ you wait 2 turns under monarchy and then switch back to rep/demo. Is the war weariness still there?

Nope, just individual cities going into disorder. Good question, tho - I imagine it is still there, as Firaxis would see this as an exploit to get 'fixed' in the next patch.

One reason why no-one hasn't noticed it, is maybe because when the situation gets so severe, player usually makes revolution himself . For instance, one time 14 civilizations declared war to me in just a couple of turns while I was in Democracy, and it halted my whole nation. I mean compeletely, even more than in anarcy .

It's a pity patriotism isn't modelled in any way.

Now that would be a good model for democracy!

The way it may work is the people would not become war weary until much later than usual if their nation was attacked unprovoked.

I recently experienced a counter to "people would not become war weary until much later than usual if their nation was attacked unprovoked."

I had been at peace for 20+ turns after beating on the Aztecs for awhile. I am now in the 1940's, Germans attack and take my 2 towns that were on their continent.* My Iroquois democracy instantly has war weariness (20% of any unhappy folks). I had never seen such quick WW and quickly switched to Republic.

Germany is currently in anarchy, switching from democracy because I got all their major neighbors as allies. They (France & Persia) are also still switching governments.

*Well placed German attacks. They both had a unique luxury. I paid through the nose to replace one of them.

Patriotism is abstracted by when you enter a war you get a surge of happiness / "we love the king" days. in rep/demo you get big bonuses for that.

                Surprise Revolutions!

Twice now, in two different games, I have had my democracy overthrown without even one single instance of civil disorder / rioting. The turn before the revolution, the number of happy citizens greatly outnumbers the number of unhappy citizens, and no other sign of impending revolution.

Can post a sav game of one instance if anyone is interested.

Also (though I don't have a save game) have tried switching to monarchy and then back to democracy, only to find WW was still present in great amounts.

See my (so far fruitless) thread HERE.
