If you haven't downloaded a single patch yet, you will be suprised at the changes
highlight changes
-group movement using "j"
-editor is much more flexible
-corruption has been lowered
-can set your bombardment units to kill in the editor
-air superiority works
and many other numerous changes
IMHO, makes the game a lot more fun to play.

I'm stuck with version 1.01 while everyone else is a 1/5 of the way to Civ IV already.
My bet is its the one where the game can't find the CD rom usualy in Windows XP.
So post your specs and maybe someone can help. For instance if you have a DVD player and a CD burner reinstall with the other drive. If you can install the game should work from the same drive you installed it from but apparently some have a problem even then. One guy was having trouble running the game from his CD but when he tried his DVD player that took care of the problem.

IMO, you hould get the latest patch, 1.21. While it has all those things that 1.17 has, like stacking and retreat ability halved, it also has lots of nice additions to the editor, namely Lethal Bombardment and Corruption Slider, and several more.Solver, WePlayCiv Co-Administrator
