  • Civ 3 1.21f interception crash bug?

I have a repeatable, game stopping bug here. Whenever one of my fighters intercepts a bomber, the game hangs after playing most of the animation. The fighter, running north->south, stays visible, all background animations continue, and the music keeps playing. Operating system is responsive, and I can safely end the program. While hung, game consumes 99%-100% CPU. The only way to continue is to reload and move the units off of air superiority, which sort of defeats the purpose. Especially when Russia is bombing the bejeezus out of me.

Anyone else seen this? I've run a search on the Apolyton forums and the c.s.i.p.g.s newsgroup with no luck.

Can you attach a save so that some of us (and the programers) can look at it? Sometimes these bugs are only on your system.

Also, does it happen for any intercept?

Let me dig through my saves. I think I have one from when I was experimenting.

I did find a work around - if I turn off combat animations, it works with no problems. I updated my video card drivers (Geforce 2 GTS, old drivers were 7 months old), with no success.

egads, could this be related to the SMACX interceptor bug...

of course Firaxis claims that there isn't any SMACX code in Civ3 but we know that is false...

Yes there is,look in the text folder of Civ3. There are a bunch of txt files, can't remember which one, but there is on that says if you fit ctrl-shift-G, it will turn the base grid on on the map. Seems they were a lttle lazy in removing things from the text files.

Don't try to confuse the issue with half-truths and gorilla dust!

That's only a conspiracy to fuel your speculation of a Civ3/SMAX tie in Tuberski.
