  • One Country Two Systems

    Just got an idea:

as a part of communism, or maybe as a totally new government type, maybe we can have a One Country Two Systems style.

For those who don't really know, it's the System People's Republic of China is using. Mainland China stays with Communism, and Hong Kong and Macau becomes Special Administrative Regions with democracy.

This seems like a good idea to reap the benifit of communism and at the same time decrease the corruptions of certain cities a bit... In this gov't style, maybe we can choose the type of gov't everytime we build a new city. Or maybe the computer automatically decide judging the distance a new city's located from the capital.

    Any comments??

If you were to adopt the Chinese model I believe you would have to do it in the following way...

You would only allow a multi-government system when a city is acquired through trade. The civ receiving the city would then have the option of choosing to leave the form of government in the city as is OR change the form of government to that of the majority. The reason for choosing the multi-government system would be to avoid anarchy (which should occur in the city when it changes government). Of course there should be an administrative penalty for maintaining a multi-government system.

That said I don't think this model should be adopted. I think for the benefit gained, the time spent on making it a reality could be better spent elsewhere. A creative suggestion though.

      so three ways:

      1. choose the type of gov't everytime we build a new city
      2. the computer automatically decide judging the distance a new city's located from the capital
      3. only allow a multi-government system when a civilization is acquired through trade

The Chinese are socialist capitalists (if you can call them anything).

            no...

I'm not trying to discuss the state of Chinese government, I talking about the One Country Two System idea.

Personally I think it's a wonderful idea and it will work even better than democracy in the game.

well frankly, i think your idea sucks .

it makes no sense, if you think about reality... imagine NYC being democratic and Albany being under a communist regime...

              it wouldnt work.

anyway, the closest thing to that that is acceptable is Social Engineering (ala SMAC) where you can create your own government (free trade, not people )

The Chinese are a democratic communists.

They do have elections (democratic), but have only one man running for each office (communists).

I'm not really sure why they did somthing as stupid as that, but it keeps the people "happy" since they think they are really electing people.

                  I think it's a good idea

I would also be interested in the ability of creating my own civ, like in CivNet.

i am quite sure friaxis wouldnt be stupid enough not to recreate civnet for civ3, because i have friends who would be quite pissed off if Cleopatra's or Joan's visage was dealign with me

The idea of having a few core cities be non-corrupt and the rest of the empire suffer from heavy corruption is basically Civ III Monarchy. The only difference is the democratic trade bonus.
