  • Another lesson learned!

You must build the Intelligence Agency so you can plant a spy ... so you know what's going on.

I was playing Regent and was 1 turn away from completing my last ss component (thrusters) and therefore launching when up came this cryptic message: You have just suffered a humiliating defeat. Old Joan had beaten me ... but I didn't know how!

I was way ahead on points; she was always ahead on tech but I was hanging in there. I'd given up on using spies a couple of games ago and figured the Intelligence Agency wasn't worth building. But you need it to plant a spy so you can see how the space race is going. I hadn't done that so she got her ship off one turn ahead of me. I guess. There were no other indicators. My culture was slightly ahead of hers. I had much more land mass. So it had to be space.

Guess I have to build the IA from now on. Information is everything.

yea, i ranted about this a few turns ago, err i mean days. (wow im bad)

anyway, the epic space race is now shrouded by secrecy.

UberKrux you're right. Having to plant spies after building the IA to monitor the space race is just plain bogus.

We already have our hands full. It is a monumental struggle just to keep up with the AI militarirly, scientifically, resources, etc.

Did this get changed in the 1.17 patch? I remember when I was playing at a lower level being able to check the competition quite easily.

I thought just planting an embassy lets you know what the other civs are doing. Or is that just for wonders?

An Embassy doesn't tell you about the Space Ships. You need a spy for that with the 1.17f patch.

You used to get a notification when a part was built even without a spy. That was bug. I was counting up the parts as they were built. Now I try to plant a spy on every civ I go to war with. I just live with not knowing about the others.

I suppose it's more realistic, like the real world. But it sure does cost a lot of extra effort and gold. Here I want to be a nice peaceful civ (who won't take any guff from the others) and figure I can skip the whole spy game and get my ship up. Guess not.

                I tried being peacefull.

The AI kept calling me weak and extorted me. At the first signs of extortion I start building a larger army.

                Sing:

                I got a little list
They'd none of them be missed.

Unfortunatly I sometimes find the situation requires that the list be hidden away for a while.

                  COOL!

                  I didn't know that!

Hey I noticed this same thing myself, sadly it was a little too late. I went through the trouble of planting spies and checking on the others - only to find out that I had disabled victory through space-race. So it was all a big waste of time.

Well you'll work harder with a gun in your back, for a bowl of rice a day. Slave to soldiers til you starve, then your heads impaled on a stake!

The framework of the world is - black and white! The infrastructure builders - flex their might! Turning true emotion into digital expression, one by one we all fall down. The grey race shrivels, trapped inside. The world it creates is black and white.

I usually plant spies in the largest countries just to see their army makeup, the space ship knowledge is a bonus, of course I usually disable that option.
