The only thing that Future Tech has ever given in any of the Civ games (or in SMAC) is extra points for your final Civ score.

If you aren't specifically trying for a really high score after you've hit the future techs you'll probably want to throttle your research back, because it won't do anything else for you.

Not entirely true. I was in the modern age in the 1800's, as well as the rest of the world. By about 1850 everyone was researching future tech, I was number 1. I dropped research to 0% and started getting money. I then saw that I was now third place! No one was at war, and my military was pretty high (all my cities were making mech infantry and modern armor), I believe that because of my lack of future tech score I was pushed down.

But by 1950 I won by space race anyway.
I drink to one other, and may that other be he, to drink to another, and may that other be me!
