Ok, I just got myself a new CD-RW drive, and also use a DVD drive. I was playing Civ. 3 perfectly well on the old drive, but since that was just about _all_ it did well, I figured I needed a new one. Wel,l to make a long story short, I can no longer play Civ. 3. I am downloading the NoCD patch, but... It just isn't the same-- I feel like a criminal even though I legaly own my copy. Is this an issue that will be fixed in an upcoming patch? Or do I have to suffer?

actually, i have seen some disks that combo dvd/cdrw drives cant read.. for example my Baldur's Gate 2 special edition disk cant be read.. now, i dont have any problems with the civ 3 disk i bought. you got several options i here..
1. contact firaxes and see if they have a media replacement program
2. get a no cd crack
3. get a 2nd cd drive.. i've got one for this reason. its just the combo drives that have this problem. or install the old drive as the backup.I spend most my money on Wine, Women and Song.. the rest i just waste.

I remember this was an issue with the initial release of the game for some people-couldn't play on a drive other than the one installed from. Have you tried reinstalling and patching?
Actualy, after I finnish my curent game, I am thinking of re-formating my HD just to clear out a lot of the gunk. *grin* that's right, I use Civ. to put off nessicary maintenence...
Thanks for the help, though...Do the Job
