Cold, nice to see you again. Nice how GL is dead now, btw

Yet I can't see how anyone would disagree with number 56. I mean come on, troops can't move along ROADS in opposition territory. With what logic can you justify that, foregoing subjective fun factor pros? Even if they could travel on roads, building up a ton of howies would not accomplish anything. This was a simple decision to make warfare less realistic and undesireable in near any circumstance. That is not fun. Unacceptable.

Motley f'ing Crue? Dude that line has been around ALOT longer than Vince Neil's sissy ass. Though they had some decent tunes...

First time I remember hearing it was in Heartbreak Ridge (pretty decent film...). And no, Crue wasn't in it...

        oh boy...

Having just spent two weeks in mingapulco, I just wanted to drop a line to Irony...the weather is fine down there this time of year.

Beyond that I am waiting for Ming to show up...no use using my ammo on amateurs.

Vel, I agree generally with your sentiment here, but Zylka had it coming, and Iron and Spec have handed it to him. Kudos to them. Zylka's pitiful attempts to defend himself and try and strike back just make this thread all the more hilarious.

Anyhow, Zylka, I do agree that Civ3 has numerous shortcomings, and so does Firaxis. I too am dissapointed that Civ3 is getting the same shoddy treatment as SMAC/SMAX, namely full of bugs and lack of decent support. Although Soren does seem to be trying, there is only so much one man can fix at once.

However, I think your mostly negative tone, and sometimes downright flagrant insults, directed at Firaxis are unwarrented. As far as I am concerned, Civ3 is very playable with all its flaws, and every patch improves that. Now if only we could get a multiplayer that will work with TCP/IP from behind a firewall/router ...

zylka: realism? in civ3? surely you jest!

as for logic, i'm not a military expert. it seems to me though, that roadways are open enough to allow small numbers of defenders (partisans, citizen militia) to slow down opposing forces. advancing infantry might suffer harrassment fire and be forced to take cover, slowing them down. also, intersections for example make for nice pre-planned target points for artillery.

                Hiya Fitz!

I guess my core point is, even if he had it coming, the entire flame shoulda been confined to PM/e-mail. Doesn't matter who hit who first, or who started it.

That it was not confined, does not say particularly good things about any of the participants.

Vel - I'm eager to hear some of your additive theses. This, of course, would come in the rare occurence that I left something out

                    Zylka,

IMHO, you only skimned the surface. Did you mention the absurdity that under ver. 1.17f you can choose between researching at full cost or buying devalued tech a turn or two later from the AI at less than 15% of its research cost?

Someone posted a screenie that showed fisson available for one coin. One.

Did you mention that one, I was laughing so hard I might have missed it.

Under the improved v 1.17f, you don't need to build libraries, universities, or labs. Just rush buy infrastructure and troops and you can lose. But, if you capture an enemy city you will find the citizens pissed because the PREVIOUS owner used the whip or the draft. They only stay mad for eeeeeeeeevvvvvvvvvveeeeeeeeerrrrrrr. Did you mention that?

Did you mention that now, under v 1.17f, the perpetual unhappiness that occurs with conscription will end up causing the AI to IMPLODE and starve itself down to a rag tag collection of size 1 and 2 towns. All you have to do is watch it happen.

Did you mention those, I don't remember cause I was laughing so hard.

                      Well, Well, Well...

Ironkinit.... Enjoy your trip to Mingapulco. After reading through the entire thread, you were indeed the biggest jerk.
                      Three Weeks for you... Enjoy.

Zylka... Enjoy your return trip to Mingapulco... I have no problem with your first post. Granted, a few personal insults tossed at Firaxis... but no worse than some of the other crap I have seen around here... And yes, you started the insults. Granted, it was mild compared to what Ironkinit started. If you had walked away after he went beyond the limits... but nahhhh... you just had to have your fun and fight it out... Two weeks for you.
