Do you ever play one on one against the AI? I think it is quite fun, and stops the computers from ganging up on you. I like Huge map, because then you can clash two huge civs in the endgame. France vs. England is a great duel, because England gets lots of huts early game, but France's Industrial bonus balance it out later in the game. UUs don't really help either civ.

With 2 civs, I've beat monarch, but it is hard with say, 8.

Haven't tried it, though I did think about it. Do you not find some of the more interesting elements missing, like screwing over an ally after he exhausts himself fighting a war for you?
