  • German Civ3 version out - does the US patch run?

Sorry if this has been asked before.

There is an official German version out now (I think it is on the level of the v1.16 - I use the US version ). I assume it is not recommended to install the US patch(es), e.g. the v1.17 now?

If so, when are localized patches available?

No, it does not. You'll need a localized version of the patch. Look at the forums in http://www.infogrames.de

As we all know, Infogreed makes localizations at the speed of light... Guess the German 1.17 comes right with the next US patch, or even later .

If it isn't out yet of course I couldn't recommend you try translating it, or you might end up with a court case on your hands.

The leader of the fan translation efford, ColdFever, wrote a letter asking Infogreed, if he and his friends can finish the project after the official localization is released. The odds are low anyway, that somebody buys both versions. We'll see, what Infogreed answers, and if they answer at all or ignore the efford like last November, and then send a lawyer .

              Hi Ralph,
our petition at least cannot be ignored that easily this time, as I sent the translated letter to Firaxis as well. Firaxis was very fast to respond in a very polite way and even is contacting Infogrames on their own decision, obviously to find a practicable solution, or at least to answer with one voice.

For everybody who is interested, here is the translation of our petition:

Dear Mr. (well known Infogrames manager),
as from today on, the official German Version of the excellent program Civilization 3 is available in Germany.

In the name of many purchasers of the US-version, that formerly has been
distributed officially in Germany, I would like to kindly ask for your permission to resume the fan based alternative translation of this version into German language, after you had to interdict the work because of economic reasons in November.

This possibility has been indicated to us at this time, as no conflicts should exist between the official localization and the fan localization after the official release, on the contrary: most purchasers of the US-version are not able to spend the full amount of money for the same game again within 4 months, so that Firaxis and Infogrames would be able to gain sympathies with a customer friendly initiative to answer the desire of many early purchasers for an optional German translation.

An authorized and free translation made by the fans themselves would liberate Infogrames from this kind of service costs and strengthen the community. Of course an offer to download the official German translation for purchasers of the US version would also be a possible solution, as the exchange of US-CDs for GER-CDs based on a reasonable expenditure fee would be fair as well.

No matter what method you may chose at last, every solution would certainly help both Firaxis/Infogrames and the fans, as pleased customers are the best fundament for the future.

We would be very glad to receive a positive answer from you.

              With hopeful regards
              Kai Fiebach

Infogrames shows more greed. They should've waited for the German release until the game was finished-no scenario support, and glitchy games...Civ three looks like it will one day be good, if Infogrames would let it

                  Good luck Kai.

I just hope you don't need luck this time around dealing with infogreed.
I'm building a wagon! On some other part of the internets, obviously (but not that other site).
