  • Firaxis: copyright question

A question to Firaxians. If I am making a video file, with, say, Adobe Premiere, am I allowed to use *parts* of the Civ 3 musical fragments in it? I mean, I'll have various music there, but can some of it be borrowed from the Civ 3 music, or is this forbidden?

I take somebody else might know this, but input from Firaxis would be welcome.

You might need to ask Infogrames instead. Best of luck.

erm, just do it, if its only parts of the song no one will notice or they will just not care.

its not like your stealling the source code, cnaging the color sceme and releasing it as sievilization.

The golden rule is, if you're not costing them money in any way, they won't mind. If you make an add-on that will spread some goodwill over the game, I think they would just be happy.

If an add-on can only be used together with the product and you don't charge money for it, you can borrow as much as you want... I think. But by all means send an email to Firaxis and Infogrames, perhaps with something along the line of "I'm looking forward to your response before the weekend". If you don't get a response by the weekend, your back is clear to go ahead.
