I just installed v1.17f and can no longer play the game. I can get to the initial screen, but nothing happens when I try to start a new game, and I get error messages if I try to load a save or scenario. I'm running XP on a PIII 1.0 gHz with 512 RAM and had no problems running v1.16f through today. Any suggestions?

I had the same problem - problem went away when I reverted to the original civmod.bic file from my modded file.- "A picture may be worth a thousand words, but it still ain't a part number." - Ron Reynolds

Thanks, but could you explain this a little better? I uninstalled Civ3, reinstalled it and aplied the patch. It worked. However, once I changed I changed the color of France in Eedit, it worked no longer (even after undoing the change). I've DLed the new editor, still no game.I remember every detail. Any BIC files you saved with the problematic editor will not work in this version.
After manually uninstalling, I now cannot install the game from the CD.
If you do manage to get it installed again:
1) Install the game
2) Install v1.17f patch
3) Get the updated editorMike Breitkreutz

v1.18f?
Oh, this means they're still working on a new version after this! Great!Avoid COLONY RUSH on Galactic Civlizations II (both DL & DA) with my Slow Start Mod.

I went through the same hassle of updating, using the Editor (oops!) and not being able to open my saved game or start a new game. So I uninstalled, reinstalled and updated directly to 1.17f. Ran the game and I was still at version 1.07f, the original. Had to run the updater a 2nd time for it to take (similar to how the updater to 1.16f worked).

I deleted the folder with Civ3 in it. When I try to reinstall, the splash screen comes up with the option to play Civ3 as if it were installed (which, of course, does not work). Choosing reinstall brings up a dialogue box asking if I want to delete all elements of this application. Clicking OK brings up the uninstall wizard; after the progress bar goes to 1%, a dialogue box comes up stating that maintenance has been completed on Civilization III. If I bring up the uninstall/add program wizard, it shows I have an installed program named Civilization III of 1.17 MB, although I have been unable to find such files anywhere. Attempting to delete this program again brings up same two dialogue boxes as when trying to reinstall the game from the CD, and it never deletes. Is there anything I can do to get the game to reinstall?
BTW, I freely admit that I'm not nearly as computer literate as most people on this board, so I may not always understand what seems simple enough for most of you. When I DLed the new editor, I copied it into my Civ3 folder (which still existed at that point), overwriting the existing editors. Was this correct? In any event, I could not start a new game after doing this. It was in response to this that I tried to uninstall.
I'm not too upset ATM--I spent a long, enjoyable evening with Disciples II, a pretty good TBS game that is broadly similar to the HoMM series, though with many different aspects and very nice graphics and atmosphere. It fills the time nicely until HoMM IV comes out next month.I remember every detail. The Germans wore gray, you wore blue.
