Incidentally, this is its 8th non-consecutive week in the top 10. That's officially twice as long as SMAC was (4 weeks).

Actually I bought SMAC because I loved the demo, and I played the demo because it had the Sid Meier name on it. But many people never heard of it.

And let's not forget that the Civilization title already has a marketing of over 10 years!
So that doesn't make Civ 3 better than SMAC, IMO.

Well I don't want to start (another) flame war, just let me tell you that I had a lot of hours of gaming pleasure with SMAC, while I can't say the same about the hours I spent playing Civ 3.

Hope this makes someone at Firaxis to start thinking what could be causing some hard-core players not enjoying Civ 3.

And please, don't even start saying why Civ 3 is better than SMAC! It's all over the forum already!

In some ways, but it lacks in others. But I'm optimistic that will be resolved in the next patch. An agreement here would probably be very welcome by many of the fence sitters here Jeff, maybe even a few clues. A little anticipation of good things to come is always a welcome thing, IMO. And it might even make the die hard critics shut up for awhile, and give the rest of us some peace.

Where? I haven't seen any. All I see is a bunch a whiners who complain how Civ3 is worse than SMAC. The same SMAC with the ugly graphics, screwed up "story lines", units that defy logic, general "clunky" interface, and somewhat limited replayability.

I for one hated SMAC and I hate the way the whiners (many of whom do not play the game or only used pirated copies) make continual comparisions to a marginal game at best. I can see where it would have a certain draw to some people. There were some neat ideas in the game, but please quit comparing the two. It's all over the forum already!

I'm glad to see Civ 3 sell well. More sales = more support is what I'm thinking.

Some of us are disappointed with Civ 3, but even as it is now, it's better than most games.
So there we were, two men against an army... man, we beat the hell outta those two.

I'm afraid I must announce my retirement as a poster to this forum as I am no longer addicted to Civ 3.

I am now addicted to parcheesi.

                        Darn you, Zach.

so Jeff, have civ3 surpassed 500,000 copies(smac's total) yet?
