  • Make peace ... not war!!!

There is no possibility in the diplomacy menu to tell an ai-player to sign peace with a third party!!

Since this was a great feature in SMAC, i miss this option hardly in civ3

If you crush them in war, then the 3rd party might win

Declare war on both parties... they'll sign a peace treaty with each other... then a military alliance and trade embargo against you... all within about 4 turns.
Infograme: n: a message received and understood that produces certain anger, wrath, and scorn in its recipient. (Don't believe me? Look up 'info' and 'grame' at dictionary.com.)

Not always true. I was getting my butt kicked on the home front by 30 or so samauris who, strangely enough, totally romp on my cavalry. Well, it was roughly a stalemate since it took 3 or so veteran cavalry to take out one samauri and if they attacked my cavalry, they would suffer no damage at all.

Anyway, I captured two minor japanese towns on another continent. Within two turns, I had peace.

If it had been a human player, s/he could have within a couple of turns taken out my capital but the AI wants peace.

This might of course be related to culture. The japanese held my culture in awe (I was more than 3 times their culture). But it definitely wasn't because of fear of extinction.

That was a nice feature in Civ 3, but it doesn't seem to work very often in real history.

I hope I'm not presuming too much, but Raion's post read like satire to me.

Maybe, it was first thing in the morning and I'm not very sharp at that hour. I'm just sick of hearing people complain about complaints, totally unconstructive.

It will be nice if we can
                            1) form multi-party alliance. such as the NATO or Warsaw Pact.
                            2) Tell other nations to stop their freakin war or I'm going to kick their ass.
                            3) Being able to sell or give away military or non-military units to other Civs.
                            4) in a real alliance, my troops should be able to enter my allie's city and use his barrack to heal, my planes should be able to be based in his airports, my ships should be able to use their harbor.

Of course you realize, DrFell, you left it wide open for me to say that I'm sick, just sick, of people complaining about complaining about complaining.

And Dida's ideas are pretty nice.
