  • Why?

Why does my civs stop working on some wonders without any explanation?

They will start building the oracle for example and when they are 8 turns away from building it they will switch over to a library.

    What gives?

Some other civ built it before you. You should get a warning of this from your Foreign Adviser between your turns, and then on the next turn the game throws 4000 shields in the bin and builds a granary.

I haven't noticed the warnings about other civs about to complete a Wonder like they had in CivII. What I have noticed are announcements that other civs have started to build a Wonder.

But to sympathize with Fergus, here's the best I've seen:

Computer: You need a Hospital to grow above size 12, do you want to switch from Hoover Dam to Hospital? (or something like that)

My response: No, finish building Wonder then build Hospital.

Computer: You built Hoover Dam! What you like to build now?

Just like that, the computer was suggesting to waste all those Wonder-ous shields that had essentially built the Hoove Dam in order to switch to a Hospital!?!? I nearly choked. Thank God I read the message thoroughly and didn't just quickly hit enter like I often do...

I guess that those warnings are no longer necessary, since you cannot rush build a wonder anymore. In CivII, you got those warnings and you hurried your wonder, provided you had resources to do it. Now, the only way to rush build a wonder is with a great leader, and since those are fairly rare...

But I agree about the stupid warning about Hospitals. If at least my advisor started to build the hospital immediately after finishing a wonder, like I told him to do, but no... that dumb advisor has to ask it again...

But these things could be fixed with a patch. A patch... any patch... anything... something! Please! Please!

(Ok, I got to take my medicine now...)
I watched you fall. I think I pushed.

          That is true.
And btw, why is that stupid woman always suggests that I build Privateer in my coast city and Swordman in inland city? Can she come up with something useful. I'm sick of this so called 'domestic advisor'.

Why? Because you folks obviously need to have something to complain about!!

Sorry, y'all felt like complaining about little things in the game that get your goat. These things are relatively easy to disregard (or just get used to it and accept it/work around it).

I, on the other hand, seem to have felt like complaining about your complaining.

              tip:

the same turn the opposing civ builds the wonder, manually switch production in your city building that wonder. Switch it to something requiring a lot of shields obviously. If you don't the next turn you wise advisor will switch it for you to something like a library.

Other than that I have not seen wonders change production. Only when another civ builds it. Change it manually before the comp does it for you.

              case closed!

You can go to the preferences and turn that off. It will only pop up after you've built an improvement, or you reach the end of your queue.
