  • I still dont understand some fetures yet....

i am new to the game (maybe this should be in the help forum?) and i still have a few questions:

the words are all screwed up, like when you go into the civlopedia, sometimes the words overlap the paragraph below, similar with diplomacy screen.

Culture: What happens when my capital that is in the middle of my civ expands its cuture? does it push the whol nations borders, or non at all?

    Combat:

I dont understand it, when they reach a higher lvl (like elite or vet), they get an extra hit point thing. But di they get an attck bonus (what was rong with the Civ2 way anywho?

I remember there were font issues when people first got the game and ways were found to resolve them. Try searching for font in the help forum.

If your nearest cities have already filled in the surrounding squares there will be no effect.

The extra hitpoints for vet and elite actually gives them a pretty significant advantage if you do the math. The combat system changed partly because of the new resource system. Players who were not lucky enough to start with iron, coal, aluminium or rubber have to have a chance of using lots of lower tech units to beat those that do. The arguement still rages between those that like and hate the new system.
To doubt everything or to believe everything are two equally convenient solutions; both dispense with the necessity of reflection.

      HIT POINTS

      If you have a 1 versus 1 eg 2 warriors, no hills/mountains/forts

      Hit points:

      A

OOPS - I hit the send button by mistake

        As I was saying

        Hit points

        A B
        3 3 A wins 50% of the time
        4 3 A wins 66% of the time
        5 3 77%

if A is an Archer and B a warrior

        A B
        3 3 A wins 79% of the time
        4 3 A wins 90% of the time
        5 3 95%

        A is a tank

        A B
        3 3 A wins 99.8% of the time (ie B wins 2 out of 1,000)
        4 3 A wins 99.98% of the time (ie B wins 2 out of 10,000)
        5 3 A wins 99.998% (B wins 2 out of 100,000)

So, hit points are worth having! Use barracks to turn out veterans and use them to kill barbs so that they get to elite!

I came across a post, in Help I think but not sure, where someone mentioned that the problem had something to do with the Lucinda Sans font. I'm not sure of the details, but there is a post around here somewhere that solves that problem.
