  • Please Read The Manual!!!

Over and over again I read posts by people getting up on their soapbox, and ranting and raving about some feature in the game that would easily be resolved if they had taken the time to learn how the game works. So please people, before you get on your high horse and start *****ing that the game sucks or that Firaxis is somehow to blame, READ THE MANUAL!!! While you're at it, take a look at the editor once in awhile. There's all sorts of information in there, even if you aren't inclined towards altering anything. At the very least, ask a simple question BEFORE you go on a tirade.

There are a bazillion questions, all unanswered and all undocumented, floating around all over the place, including the threads pinned to the top. Stop pretending you're the Fool on the Hill who sees the world spinning 'round.

When I'm answering a dozen questions a day that I find an answer to just by looking it up, then it seems rather obvious to me that people just aren't bothering to look it up for themselves. Yes there are a lot of things that are vaque and not well documented, but that's no excuse for ranting about a feature that is, or should be, common knowledge. And like I said, the least they can do is ask a simple question before they start spouting off.

I agree. The manual for this game is one of the best works of fiction I've ever read.

Yes it does leave something to be desired, but that's not the only avenue for finding information. There's also the Civilopedia and the editor.

(Yes Libertarian, I know the Civilopedia needs work as well.)

I don't mind answering stupid questions, in fact I've asked a few myself. But I'm getting annoyed with these people who automatically start ranting and raving without bothering to find out the facts.

I usually would refrain from this, but the self rigtheousness of this thread was just too high octane to pass without some comment. How about this: if some people annoy you because they have not studied the manual, the editor, and the Civlopedia like the Bible, the Torah, and their commentaries, why not just ignore them and get off our high horse? Problem solved.

So other people are allowed to get on their high horse, but I'm not allowed to get on mine. Rather a double standard don't you think? Maybe you should take your own advice.

well, let me jump on mine, "you can all kiss my ass"
any documentation included with this game is simply there to divert you from the fact that whatever information you're looking for is not nearly as important as the fact that you shouldn't be even wasting your time searching because the game itself isn't worth the time to begin with.

how about reading carefully what willem originally wrote?
He's not complaining about people asking questions.
                          He's actually encouraging them!

What he is saying, is that before anyone starts ranting and raving about some "stupid" feature, to look it up in the manual or civilopedia and see what it says there. It might resolve it or at least give you a rationale for why it's there.
Then, if it's still a problem for you, then you can start ranting and raving and willem won't have a problem with that.
I don't think his request is unreasonable.

I don't think anyone has a problem with answering questions, but I get a bit angry when some persons start screaming that Firaxis should burn in hell when the player actually has misunderstood something about the game.
