  • A little idea about air missions.

I like the new way air units are used, but I think that more options should be available.

I think that a mission could be "support unit", accomplished by bomber or fighter. This would provide air support for the selected unit :
-If it's a fighter that is doing it, it would protect the unit against any bombing (like air superiority) and give it a two squares view range (patrols).
-If it's a bomber, it would improve A/D ratings of the unit by providing field bombing (softening enemy defenses if the unit attack, bombing their supply lines and soldiers if the unit defend).

Another variant of this mission should be the "escort bomber" mission, where the selected fighter(s) protect the selected bomber(s) against air superiority missions : any enemy aircraft must shoot down the escort before being able to attack the bombers (alternatively, the fighter could have an equal chance to fight each aircraft, ie if 3 fighters escort a bomber, the defending fighter have 75 % chances to fight the escort fighters, and 25 % chances to fight the bomber).

On top of escorting a specific aircraft, the "air superiority" mission should be renamed "defending mission", and a true "air superiority" mission should be created, oriented to control the air space by giving to the fighters that accomplish it a chance to intercept ANY aircraft acting in their range (whatever the cause of the fly : escort, bombing, support unit, precision bombing, even another interception).

    Any other suggestions welcomed.

I wish I had something constructive to offer you, but making suggestions for improvements to Civ3 has become an exercise akin to sacrificing goats on altars. The sheer futility. Not to mention wasting perfectly good goats.
