  • Need some advice

Hi. I"ve been a lurker here for awhile and have just gotten Civ 3. I am finding the science researching to be a problem. By 2050, I am still only late in the industrial tech tree and have no hopes of getting to the modern tech. I am also an expansionist and fight at least one war early in the game before my opponents get too strong. DO any of you have suggestions that will allow me ot stay agressive early in the game and at the same time increase my scientific output (without making me go broke)?

    Thanks

I don't think that's possible...guns or butter...because gold supports the military OR science, if you have a large military / don't balance Sci and Mil, Sci will suffer.
One OS to rule them all,
    One OS to find them,
One OS to bring them all
and in the darkness bind them.

      Trade:
As you look in the Strategy forum, you will find several posts that recommend buying and (gasp!) SELLING techs. Look for threads started by Velociryx - Vel's Strategy Threads are highly recommended.

      Play as a Scientific civ:
Such as the Babylonians (my current favorite), Greeks, Germans, Russians or Persians. Their Libraries, Universities, etc. cost only half as much.

Are you playing short games by playing on a small map? Personally, I recommend that you go for longer games to get the 'training' and a better 'feel' for it.

I don't think that's standard Tymarian defense doctrine...

Nice to see you here, Speaker-presumptive (and Marshal of the Army) !

          re:

Hey Chrysostom. Don't worry, I'll be more sensible in protecting your backside in Tymaria

Thanks for the advice guys, I'm going to see what I can get done with it. BTW, has any one tries, while being a lower level of govt. where you get free units (ie. no cost) to pump science research up to its max and go broke to get more science? I've tried it once or twice and made some headway (however, never try it if you have enemies left on your continent )
