  • What does "recon" do?

Have not played the game yet...

I am curious about what the "recon" order does.
The difference between industrial society and information society:
In an industrial society you take a shower when you have come home from work.
In an information society you take a shower before leaving for work.

it removes the fog of war from a 5x5 section centered around the square you clicked, and you can see all units/terrain updates, etc in those squares. it lasts for 2 or 3 turns i think
The Civ3 world is one where stealth bombers are unable to sink galleons, Man-O-Wars are a powerful counter to battleships, and knights always come equipped with the AT-S2 Anti-Tank Sword.

The Simwiz2 Combat Mod Version 2.0 is available for download! See the changes here. You can download it from the CivFanatics Thread or the Apolyton Thread.

I've never used it but I thought it could be useful if you expected an invasion from a civ and you wanted to know ahead of time when it was coming. you could just set up your planes to perform recon and thus see them before you normally would. So IF this works it might not be totally useless!!!

its great for tripping air missions

Then you know if you have jets in the area before you launch those bombers or, worse, send in the air cav.

I'm sure it does have an advantage i don't understand yet.
In war, i send in ground units for recon. In peace, the enemy naturally builds up in some places..so i could never be sure if they were planning an attack.

It would be really useful if you could give a unit an automated order to keep doing the recon from turn to turn (that and it didn't disappear when another fog of war event ocurred).

There's also a bug in it. If a portion of two recon areas overlap, the overlapped portion will darken (go back into the fog).

I use it to track down the enemies fleet. Once I find them, I can send in bombers from my carriers to cripple them. I just wish that airpower could destroy units, or slow them down so my other surface units could finish them off.
