  • This forum is becoming a battlefield!!

Every time someone starts a new thread is like entering another level of mutual verbal agression and sensless bickering.

Every litlle argument serves as another excuse to start calling each others names and other kinds of offending activities, and soon the whole thread turns into an insult arena.

On one side we have the "I like civ3" people, on the other we have the "I don´t like civ3" people, and then, within this categories, we have subdivisions (form the "I could almost like Civ3" people, to the "Kill Sid" people).

What is wrong with you people?! Can't we all share our opinions ('cause that's what they really are: opinions) without declaring insult war on each others?

For cryin out loud, it's just a friggin game! And, hey, it's called civilization, so let's all try to be CIVILIZED to one another...

and this thread will turn into a battlefield too. watch this.

People only hate civ3 because they suck at the game, and have no clue how to adapt new strategies. They are perhaps the worst strategy gamers in the history of civilization.

Obviously the strong majority of the people posting on this forum are incapable of rational debate. That's just the way it is on the surface with every major release, but look deeper and I'm sure you can get some good conversations going around here...

There were threads about this just before release, a year before release, at release, and now after release. You could see it coming from a mile away. I guess everyone gets an opinion, but yeah it's dumb.

Unfortunatly, some folks respond to the message thread simply statin that the original poster is an idiot and that they dissagree. There is never a counter-point...just that they dissagree and the orignal poster is a diluded fool for thinking the way he did.

*shrug* Welcome to the world of massed-discussion. For every one intellegent poster, 10 more are morons; just like the real world.

there's nothing wrong with disagreeing, you just have to accept the fact that no two people will ever agree with each other on everything, and when you try to get dozens of people...

                    Being responsible

The way to avoid having such threads arise, or letting them go on, is to ignore the flamers and the trolls and continue to state and post clear arguments devoid of senseless name calling or ad hominem attacks. We can't avoid those that want of feel they must use such tactics, but we must not be dragged down into acting that way. Parhaps 80% of all posts will still be senseless, but at least a modicum of debate and sanity would remain.

I don't think anybody wants to hear from the disaster of a human that Wiglaf is.

The reason is this: most of you guys who love Civ 3 may not have been expecting as much as those of us who have been here for years. Those of you guys who say that "it's just a game, quit getting upset" don't seem to realize quite how addictive Civ 2 was for as long as it was. For many of us, we would lose sleep and miss homework assignments to play civ 2 just a few more minutes. To go from that to a game which is so quirky and so incomplete from a consistent company like Firaxis, then to be largely ignored was a huge dissappointment for many of us. It isn't so much "I love Civ 3" versus "I hate Civ 3..." it's more of a "I'm new to civ, and I think civ 3 is pretty good" versus "I loved civ 2 and have been playing the civ games for years, and this is not what we had hoped for."
