  • Manual Discrepancies

It seems the manual and the game doesn’t agree on the attributes of the civilizations. This is understandable due to the fact that the manual is often sent out before the game is completed, and I'm inclined to follow the game, but you never know.

The following races are listed as such in the manual (Only races that are different in the game and manual are listed.):

    Rome: Industrious, Militaristic
    China: Industrious, Scientific
    Persia: Militaristic, Commercial

But in the civilization selection screen they are listed as:

    Rome: Militaristic, Commercial
    China: Militaristic, Industrious
    Persia: Scientific, Industrious

Anyone know which version is correct of the three? Or should I just continue on with the assumption that the game is correct and the manual is wrong? (As opposed to somebody making a mistake while typing in the Civs for the game)

read readme.txt on your cd, it lists those changes. manual was completed earlier and for all purposes, it is pretty useless....

Watch out for the unit statistics, too...they are nearly all wrong in some way or another. Use the civilopedia or editor to see real stats.

Difficulty levels in my manual do not even mention the regent level.

What is worse though, on-line civilopedia can also contain (minor) discrepancies.
Description of desert says this terrain can only contain incense, oil or saltpeter.
Description of aluminum says it can also occur on desert terrain ?

The Civ3 manual is the inerrant word of Sid Meiers.
