Age/Time Comparison?

Well, I AM a newbie, but it seems that this game is extraordinarily hard! I can't ever seem to win a game by 2050 (in fact, scientific advancements and ages seem to creep by)...

Can anyone make a chart telling me approximately what time period I should be in the Medieval, Industrial, and Modern ages? I always seem to be lagging behind other civs (in score and such), and this would be a handy reference so I would know I'm on course to winning by 2050...

If you can point me to a newbie strategy guide that would be awesome too...I followed the manual's newbie tutorial but I still can't win.

One thing that helps to not fall behind in science is to trade a lot with the AI civs.
