  • Aquaducts bug?

Don't know if anyone else has seen this but:

In my current game, I have several cities which are stuck at size 6 because they need an Aquaduct. Fine, I can deal with that. However, if I try to manually switch to an Aquaduct in any of these cities (via the city screen build list), then I cannot select Aquaduct (it's greyed out like a Wonder already in production).

OK... but then if I wait until the city builds something else (e.g. Marketplace) and the "What shall we build next?" dialogue comes up, then I can choose Aquaduct, but this seems to be the only place I can select it. If I go back to the city screen and check the build list I still can't build Aquaducts...

Has anyone else seen this or can verify it? It's quite subtle (as I assume most people use the "What should we build next?" dialogue for managing their production when cities build things, which works fine) but is quite annoying (when you want rush an Aquaduct but can't!).

Actually, that's one I haven't heard. Nor have I run into it. The only time I can't choose the aqueduct is when I'm by a river.

I know cities by rivers or fresh water lakes don't need Aquaducts but I have got this problem with about half a dozen cities (although most, I just rushed some Marketplaces and then built Aquaducts from the dialogue to get the cities growing). I think two or three are next to rivers and the others are in swamp.

It seemed to me to be something gone corrupt inside the game as I am pretty sure it's not always been like that. Saved, quit and reloaded with no change though

It isn't too bad though as it is straightforward to work around.

I happened to think of one other instance when that has occurred. It's a bit obvious, kind of like "is it plugged in?", but it might be worth checking — i.e., if the aqueduct is already selected, it will be grayed.

If that's not your problem, could you post your saved game so we could have a look at it?

The Aquaduct is definitely not selected.

I spotted this because I got the warning message coming up of "Sire, the City of X needs an Aquaduct, shall we build one?" and I said "No, build Marketplace and then build Aquaduct" but then changed my mind, so went into the city but the aquaduct(!) is greyed out

If that's not your problem, could you post your saved game so we could have a look at it?
          Will do.

I have no net access at home ATM (just mvoed house!) but can burn it onto CD and upload it from here tomorrow.

Hopefully, that still has one or two cities with this problem. Either that or I can find an older save which has it.

Edit: cos I'm stupid and put marketplace rather than aquaduct!

It sounds to me like you did select the aquaduct when you responded to the message. "Then build aquaduct "probably put it in your queue. Check the queue for the city, if it is present you can delete it (use the delete key) and then you might be able to switch.

This is off the top of my head so I might be wrong.

Hi, ... this is no bug..

When you say 'Finish xxx' and then build Aquaduct the Aquaduct is placed on 1 in the building queue. So when you go to the city screen you can't select the aquaduct because it is allready in you're list of things to build.

To immidiatly build the aquaduct do one of two things:

              - Shift + Right mouseclick on you're city and select the aquaduct

              or

              - Open the city screen, click on whatever is being build (so the production queue opens), select aquaduct, press delete, and next select Aquaduct as the thing to spend the shields on.

              good luck...

Yep. If you responded that way to the nag, the aqueduct is in your queue.

                  Ah ha!

                  That explains it!

Right OK, so I just need to play with the build queue? I just found it a bit confusing as I couldn't select an Aquaduct.

                  Thanks guys.

Thank you for starting a thread that actually brings up a new item, finds a solution, and leaves everyone feeling good about each other. Ordinarilly, that would be no big deal. But these days, it is an oasis of relief in a desert of mostly baseless and redundant complaints.

                      Well thanks for your help!

Anyways, now I'm off to whine and rant again on some other threads just to make up for it...
