Apparently it is actually possible to play a game with the units on proper starting location on a much better earth map.
Check out the satya world maps and some of the editors on file downloads section so u can then update save game on 1st turn and put civs in there proper places - it pretty well apart from that u will have a contact with the civ that u swapped places with.
Its pretty good though, both these downloads available on this site make the game much better - why couldnt infogrames or 'infoturds' as someone eloquently put it have made this possible in the 1st place?
At times it reminds of hasbro's poor showing of Civ test of time
