Scenario Maps

Is there anything wrong with scenario maps?
My friend told me that there is a bug that stops science working properly on maps that you create yourself, is this true?

What I've found is that if I make a map the science advisor screen with the tech map no longer works as a way to select a technology or a series of techs. But everything else works fine as far as I can tell.
