  • Patch - when?

Has there been any official word about when the first patch for Civ3 will be released?
I guess this game has many minor but yet important fixes to be made.
    Hint: combat calculation

Why not make a big list of all the changes that we want in the new patch?

By the end of the month. Hopefully.

Wow! That's a great idea! Why hasn't Apolyton thought of it?

There is a bug list that is supposed to be compiled, checked and sent to Firaxis each week.. I believe it is gathered in the Help forum

Read the Soren Johnson Chat Transcript some things have been revealed about the patch in that... Also Jef Morris posted some information on it.

This comes right out of the chat transcript:

[ACS_MarkG] let's get the upgrades/patches question out of the way no
[Soren_Johnson_Firaxis] cultural acquisition of cities does not make the AI get mad b/c
[ACS_MarkG] Soren, what decisions are there right now for the patches?
[Soren_Johnson_Firaxis] it is not really directly under the user's control (unlike capturing a city) * nidz-onehalf would like to ask a rather silly, but fun-to-know question
[Jannekorv] ok, thats the only way I aquire cities so
[connorkimbro] Soren_Johnson_Firaxis: i've noticed that alot of times, the AI seems to really like to share techs with other AI civs. . but not with the player. It's almost as if, diplomatically, they're ganging up on the player. Is that intentional?
[Soren_Johnson_Firaxis] oh sorry... we are working on a patch and it will address bugs and interface issues first as well as a few balance and AI holes...
                [ACS_MarkG] upgrade on the editor?
[Mark13] Any hint of a release date?
[Soren_Johnson_Firaxis] ...sorry, I can't be too specific b/c we don't want to promise anything until it gets through testing...
                [ACS_MarkG] Ok, thanks
                [Misfire] ?
[Soren_Johnson_Firaxis] the editory will be upgraded soon although I am not sure if it will be in the first patch...
[SamSmithnz] But we're talking before christmas for the patch right?
                [ACS_MarkG] thechief, please ask
[TheChief] Is simple trespassing enough of an excuse to start a war with an AI player without losing points with other AI players. In other words, I don't want to ruin my reputation in the long run to win by the UN vote.
                [Soren_Johnson_Firaxis] yes, before X-mas
[ACS_MarkG] yes, sam, Jeff Morris mentioned "end of month"(this month).

                Hope this helps...

And Dan said today that it would be "soon"

Beware! We might see a repeat of the fiasco that afflicted the B&W patch.

The developers (Lionhead) had the patch ready, and made the mistake of informing the gaming community. Then the publisher (I'm not even going to sully my keyboard by typing their name) said they needed to test it. And test it they did. For a month.

You can imagine the kind of effect that had. Man, the planetb&w forum was going totally critical. I can imagine the same sort of thing happening here, but hopefully it won't!

My guess is the patch will be out just before christmas, but I'd be really pleased if I was wrong!

                    Patch Nightmare

Worse than the B&W patch fiasco would be with what happened with the DungeonKeeper2 patches...

The 1st patch fixed numerous bugs in the original version ( ), but also created new bugs ( ).

The 2nd patch fixed most of the bugs ( ) & added new creatures ( ), but made the AI players extremely stupid ( ).

HUGE DELAY (not months... about 1 year)... the active participation the designers had with the gamers faded. Fans waited expecting the patch to be that much better as the website claimed.

The last patch added more new creatures ( ), but left the AI players still VERY stupid ( ) & instead of trying to fix the remaing bugs they simply removed those features ( ). The promised official editor never was released either. ( )

That is the worse game patch work I ever saw.

PS. I am by far a TBS fan, but did play DK2.

I'd have to say ctp2 is the worst tbs patch ever. The first patch did nothing, and the second patch did only slightly more. The game was then abandoned with an insane amount of problems. I assume civ3 should be able to do better than this...

In fact, I'd say every good game is generally supported with good patches.

btw. I'm not playing civ until the patch comes out...

I've been enjoying SMAX and return to Castle Wolfenstein while waiting for the patch. I hope it's worth the wait.

Anyone see the patch for Fallout: Tactics? THAT was heaping one disaster on top of another.
