  • Exchange Rate Gold / Shields, and # of Game Turns

I am working on a nice analysis of the 6 civilization traits. To this end, two things would really help.

First, what exchange rate would you set between gold and shields? Is the Wealth rate, 4 shields to 1 gold (post economics) a good rate to use? Or is that too many shields for 1 gold?

Second, does anyone happen to know how many game turns (not years) there are in a Regeant or Monarch game? I looked in the manual but it is not listed.

Thanks for reading, and thanks to anyone who helps out.

Do you mean to say that difficulty level affects the number of turns in the game. I've been playing Chieftain but I feel ready to move up. One of my main complaints about this game so far is that the game never allows me or the other Civs to advance far enough technologically...

Then again, for one reason or another I've never made it to 2050... I've been really close but I won Diplomatically (accidentally) and Culturally (inexplicably).

I'd appreciate an answer to this if anyone knows for sure.

To answer your other question about wealth, I'm not sure about 4 to 1 being adequate but in my opinion, it's too expensive to rush city improvements. Libraries, marketplaces and temples shouldnt cost 300 gold...

I keep meaning to record the turns, but I get too involved, and forget. Here's what I've figured for sure so far.

      4000 - 2750 BC - 50 yrs/turn (25 turns)
      2750 - 1750 BC - 40 yrs/turn (25 turns)
      1750 - 750 BC - 25 yrs/turn (40 turns)

      1950 - 2050 AD - 1 yr/turn (100 turns)

I tend to be having too much fun in between there to notice when the changes are.
