Attack a warrior, or better yet a spearman, with a musketeer and you will.

Maybe because I always end my musteteers' turn in good defensive terrain,
Impossible. How can you advance a musketeer unit when most of the game is flat land?

always at full health (wounded musketeer units are always covered by TWO full health musketeers),
Do you have magical powers of healing?

and never attack with musketeers (they are not offensive units)?
They are offensive units, but they are not correctly valued to be such. They need retooling BAD.

I guess complaining on the boards is easier than taking the time and effort to micromanage your units properly.
I guess some people look and see the forest, and some look and see the trees...

Its there.....in the box to your lower right hand cornor, the units remaininng movement is shown. Say, a tank its shown like 16,8,2/3. That 2/3 is the movement remaining.
I'll look - is the 2/3 two thirds of a MP for road movement?

Sigh. See above. ALWAYS bombard, NEVER leave wounded units in the open, always produce veteran units, stay in stacks, oh, and don't start a war unless you have 30 ironclads.
Screw that, why cover a bad combat system with overhead of my time?

    Skirmishers!

    What? What are those?
    ZOC opportunity fire.

Keyboard shortcuts SUCK! This is harder to control than an F-16.

More shortcuts are always nice. The double click thing does bother me.
I wasn't clear, I like some keyboard shortcuts, but the ones in this game SUCK! Goto city is Ctrl-Shift-G ??? Hitting R doesn't work to make railroads if there is already a road? The shortcuts we have kinda suck...

    BORDERS SUCK!

    Borders rock.
I wish Civ3 had some real borders, because as they are now, they suck.

I think you should have said that to the designers before the game was out. Musketeers have the stats of a defensive unit and the AI use them like a defensive unit.

Transforming them in an offensive unit would be hard because they replace the pikemen and the AI would be left with no defensive units. An AI with no defensive unit is not a great opponent (some of it`s cities are defenseless).

You said: Attack a warrior, or better yet a spearman, with a musketeer and you will.

Musketeers are for defensive. Use cannons and knights for offense.

You said: Impossible. How can you advance a musketeer unit when most of the game is flat land?

That's why I move them in stacks of 3 or 4. That way they stand a much better chance of survival.

"Do you have magical powers of healing? "

I wasn't very clear. If a musketeer is wounded, I can always move 2 full health musketeers to protect the wounded unit, so my wounded units are seldom caught surprised.

"They are offensive units, but they are not correctly valued to be such. They need retooling BAD. "

Combined arms man. Infantry = defense. Cavalry/tanks = offense/hit and run. Artillery type = bombardment. If infantry have good offense value, then why bother with cavalry? Different units should have different roles.

"I guess some people look and see the forest, and some look and see the trees... "

Nope, its some people adjust to the system, but others choose to play it the way they like and then complain when it doesn't work.

"I'll look - is the 2/3 two thirds of a MP for road movement? "

Err not sure, I'll have to look to confirm it.

"Screw that, why cover a bad combat system with overhead of my time? "

Finally, you admit that its because you don't want to spend the time to micro-manage your units Seriously, the system rewards the people who spend 20 minutes to play a turn to micromanage the units and double check if everything is ok before ending the turn. Those to like to rush ahead tend to get penalized.

        "Skirmishers!

        What? What are those?

        ZOC opportunity fire. "

Yeah that's a nice new feature.

"I wasn't clear, I like some keyboard shortcuts, but the ones in this game SUCK! Goto city is Ctrl-Shift-G ??? Hitting R doesn't work to make railroads if there is already a road? The shortcuts we have kinda suck... "

        I have to agree.

"I wish Civ3 had some real borders, because as they are now, they suck. "

Nah, borders shouldn't be an "iron curtain". They shouldn't make your territory 100% safe. If you don't like the AI trespassing, declare war.

Musketeers are a defensive unit in this game. Edit it if you dont like that.

Happens with the lack of firepower. 5 bad random numbers in a row will kill any unit. Unless they change the combat system get used to it.

Governors suck if you dont program them. The production queue works fine as long as there is something in it and you have not changed something in midstride. After you do the Gov will mess put whatever he thinks is best for the next unit while the rest of the queue remains and will straighten its self out on the next unit after.

So you have to click what? Three buttons to look up something that after a game or two you'll almost never use again. Not a big deal.

As in? I dont have a problem with intruders as long as Im in good standing with everyone else, have a strong army, and not stuck in the middle of two countries who goto war.
