  • "Poor Man's capitalization" beats wealth every time

for those who don't know, "Poor Man's capitalization" the practice of building and selling an improvement for cash, when capitalkization was not available in Civ2.

I was happy to see wealth as an option when I started the game, but soon realized that it was lousy, since you only get an 8-1 return on the shields.

For example: in my capital, I am putting out 14 shields (15 with a courthouse), and wealth gives me 1 gold per turn. I checked.
I could then build a courthouse in 7 turns, and sell it for 20 gold, for a return of almost 3 gold per turn, averaged out. I can then rebuild the courthouse.

I think it should be closer to even when I get the commerce tech.
Any man can be a Father, but it takes someone special to be a BEAST

I was just about to point out that Horsie is simply making excuses in advance for why he will suck at Civ III...

4 Shields produce 1 Gold after Economics Advance.

As an aside, disbanding units in a city returns 1/4 of their production cost (not 1/2 ala Civ2).
