number of civs?

Does anyone know the max # of civs that can play at one time? On the huge map the most that I have been able to play with is 8, I just read a post that someone had 12!!! Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong?

16 on huge.
My favorite type is 16 on standart/large size. Crampy and faster.

what I'm saying is that 8 is the MAX that I can do. So this is a bug? has anyone else seen this?

Make sure all of the tabs for the opponents are set at "random" instead of "none" on your start screen.

done that, and on the set up screen i get 16 options. then once the game starts, back to only 8

how do you know theres only 8? remember the diplomicy advisor screen can only show 8 at once and u have to press ctrl and click
