  • Should I get civ3 (i'm in uk)

i read here for opions to judge whether to get civ 3 when its in shops next weekend.
it seems a lot say "it sux" etc.
the bugs sound bad and it sounds rushed.
    should i get it.
usaians and others who have civ3 try to be sensible, this isnt a thread like "civ3 is crap" "civ 3 kiks @$$"
i will probly get it anyway, but will i have to return it?
    Just my 2p.
Which is more than a 2 cents, about one cent more.

        Disclaimer:
I do not have the game (Europe), I like it but I will wait for a complete MP Scenario Patched Gold edition.

        IMHO:
if you never played any Civ game I definitely advise you to buy it.
If you liked CivII and want a conservative game, probably buy it.
If you want MP or scenarios, wait for a while.
If you liked SMAC, uhm, take a little time pondering and then scan the forum again. Maybe you will reach a conclusion. I like SMAC and I did not reach any conclusion. Repeat as needed.
If you liked CtP anything can happen

Buy it friday - forget all those whingers and whiners after all they are only Americans

Whilst asking yourself "What else am I going to do?" think about these three things

          (1) Winter in England is sucky and all the current abnormal OK weather can't last forever.

          (2) Theres nothing on TV worth watching

          (3) What else is your PC doing ? Hasn't been a decent game out in ages - your PC needs you to play Civ or it will think you've got a PS2 on the side

Go on, go on, go on its got Civilization in it
Hoping that 4 is closer to 2 than 3

It only costs £24.99 from Amazon.co.uk--about $40, ten dollars less than most of what the Yankies here seem to be claiming they paid ($50). Go for it! Unless of course the value of the next best thing foregone is much greater! (Remember: opportunity costs!)

considering recently, shogun (uncompleted and new), and project igi demo have stopped working and my email to ea is still being 'processed', an email from them said so, i am wihtout games to play. if anyone can help here is the email=

Shogun Total War did run fine, but recently, I reinstalled the display adapters to the Packard Bell defaults which came with the computer. Now when I try to run Shogun I get the dialogue box above, which says "Shogun has caused an error in SHOGUN.ICD. I have installed DirectX8 and the NVidia drivers for my Geforce2MX400 and reinstalled the game but the game still displays this error. I am running in Windows ME with a Packard Bell computer, 1001mhz AMD Athlon and 128MB of RAM. I think it a problem with DirectX and drivers as other games have stopped working.

              Just my 2p.

Easy reply, YES!!!!! It is a great game, definitely has a few issues, but is still fun to play. Most (not all) of the people with threads here about problems still say they love the game. I am having fun, and I bet you will too.

One caveat, if you only want to play multiplayer, now would not be the time. I am a single player, and loving life.

Take the 'Yin Expectation Scale' test posted in my review thread. A number of people say it's pretty accurate.

The test can be found here.

                      Yes, you should buy it.

                      No, it is not 'broken.'

                      It is not a 'beta.'

If you are looking for an engaging, challenging SP strategy game, you will like it.

Some people are complaining about the major impact on corruption on city growth. I say the developers are trying to get us to think about empire building and expansion in a different way, rather than the old (to paraphrase somebody else's post) 'build a lot of units and attack the other empires until you destroy them.'

If you are into multiplayer, do NOT buy it because it doesn't support MP...yet.

I paid full retail price for Civ 3 and for me it was well worth it.

As a person who ended up buying three copies of Civ2 (Civ2 basic, Civ2 Multiplayer, & ToT) I suggest you at least wait until a patch and MP come out before buying. That is unless you just can't wait and you have money to burn.

David Murray: Thanks for the tip, I have just ordered it from Amazon for £24.99.- I only hope they get their stock as quickly as EB/Game who I expect to have it on Friday.

Actually, I see the more important question is not do you have "money to burn", but do you have time to burn/use in playing Civ3 in its present form? -I am really not sure yet, but am determined to give it a go before deciding if it has to sit on a shelf waiting for the patch.
