There's going to be a patch :)

From the ask the dev page at civ3.com:

In Civ III, we certainly do handle corruption differently than in previous Civ games. We will probably tone its effects down somewhat for the first patch

And because they used the word "first", we can expect there to be more than one patch, and it looks like they are going to fix some of the gameplay problems.

Now all we need is an ETA.
