  • Population cap at 12?!

My cities have been staying at its 12 population status for centuries now and I have no idea how to increase it anymore. I built aqueduct and irrigated every single square of the surrounding land. But my city pop just won't increase! I have over 20 cities that are at this 12 population cap, and I want them to grow!

    Any tips?

You need to build a hospital if you want that city to grow past size 12. You can build hospitals when you research Sanitation.

You should really read the manual...it's been said a lot that you need a hospital to grow past 12.

I have ten cities, eight of which are pop. 12, with the other 2 almost maxed out. I'm researching monotheism as my first advance in the Middle Ages and I find that my civilization's growth will be the same until I've done the entire Middle Ages, because hospitals can't be built until early in the Industrial Age.

I feel as though my hands are tied and I'm on a short leash.

Does anybody know if this will be addressed in a patch?

What needs to be adressed? It's fine the way it is.

No its fine the way it is.

Me too had many of my cities maxed out when I was near the end of the middle ages (I play on Regent level right now). But my situation wasn't as bad as yours.

Your hands are not tied. You can do these:

              1. Your cities are producing too much food. Try assigning your population to hills, mountains, forests and deserts to get more shield production, you don't need the extra food anyway. If all of your tiles are grassland, use the pop. as specialists.

              2. Build mines instead of irrigation improvements.

              3. Your science is too slow. Try adjusting your science rate, take steps to reduce corruption, trade techs etc.

              4. You are wasting food and population points. Why don't you try building more workers and settlers to make something out of the situation?

Try to achieve zero growth with cities that have maxed out its population.

Nah, he's totally right. It does need to be adjusted somehow the growth rate isn't consistent with the tech rate. I'd understand maybe you capital or one or two cities being halted too soon, but I had an empire of 20 cities, every single one capped at 12. I didn't want to grow anymore 'cause corruption is ridiculous and I had to wait about 100 turns before i got hospitals.
It's out of whack and i'm sure it wasn't their actually intent. It also slows the AI down by ALOT and gives you time to catch up at diety. I don't think it's what they intended.
It seems like the released it without playing it first
