  • So, what are we grilling Soren on?

Anybody have any plans for tomorrow?

    Tomorrow is Tuesday..

The AI's seemingly uncontrolable urge to infest the entire planet in less than 20 turns.

Also, their very blatant ability to see where your empty cities are, as well as your un-escorted workers.

I'm less concerned about them having the urge to do it as having the ability to do it.

        Questions..

I was speaking recently to a friend of mine that just last year completed an honours thesis on AI algorithms, and who is now doing a PhD on this same topic (Robocup soccer). I told him about the AI in Civ II and *sigh* Civ III at higher difficulty levels. This is what he came back to me with,

My question would be "Why is Civ 3's AI so poor that it needs to cheat heavily to be remotely competitive? Isn't it your job to produce something that can play well without cheating?".

        I'm wondering the same thing.

I don't think that AI cheating is that bad a thing, given the number of variables that need to be tracked...

You can infest the entire planet too. The AI is not cheating when it's going expansion-crazy. It's just building settlers immediately. It's a total pain in the ass, in any event.
