  • Railroads give extra food!

A friend told me that railroads increase foodproduction!

Is this true? And does this mean that the whole map will be covered with railroads. If so I'd be very disappointed.

Also I would like to know if it's still possible to transform terrain (e.g. change deserts into plains).

Kinda... Rail gives +1 food in an irrigated square, and +1 Shield in a mined square. The bonus food was a replacement for "Fields" (A VERY BAD IDEA IMHO). Which means forest are useless in the late game (Rail does not give them anything).

No TERRAFORMING... You can clear/plant forests (in grassland/plains/tundra) and clear jungles though (jungles become grassland). I like the fact that forests are on more terrain types, and the inability of terraforming dosen't really bug me (as long as it becomes possible in the editor).

Also. there are no SWAMPS (no glacier either)

I think rail should only improve mines AND Forests with +50% shields, they should add back fields. Swamps SHOULD be included, and jungle found on swamps/grasslands. Swamps should be DRAINABLE to grassland. Forests on Hills would also be nice.

Well that and the UN letdown and the editor are my three real civ3 complaints.

So this means the whole map will be covered with railroads. That must be very ugly!

I agree and also there should be the option to change deserts into plains.

Is there a rules.txt where we can make these changes?
