Anyway to give units to another civ?

Is there anyway to give units to another civ? Because alot
of times it would be much, much easier to give a friendly
civ some units than directly intervene in their war.

I think you can give workers (mentioned somewhere in the mamual), but not other units. (not mentioned anywhere in the game or manual).
