  • A little problem with armies..

I thought you could add/remove units to army when it's in city. (Manual is VERY unclear) But I haven't been able to.

    The readme.txt say:

"Once that army leaves the city of it's construction, you cannot add or remove units from the army."

Does this mean I can't add/remove units even if I go back to city?

So can I upgrade army's units somehow??

edit: When I try to upgrade it (shift-U) it says "We don't have a single Army which can be upgraded"

Based on some comments by Dan a while back, I believe the answer is no, you can't alter an army in any way once it has left home city for the first time. Yes, it seems odd. No, I don't know why they did it this way.

I think that they wanted to balance out game.
They didn't wanted player to keep ancient time found armies in modern time, just by upgrading units.
Still, I think that they should give us a option to disband the army and upgrade units one by one (maybe in patch).

Alsol, there is an countereffect: it is possibile with 65% chance that Attacking Regular Mech. Inf. dies when trying to attack Army of 3 elite swordsmen.

I have been able to add units to an army already in the field, but haven't tried to swap units already in the army.

I took my leader to a city, and used the create army command, but didn't add any units. I then took the empty army into the field and added three units to it.

Looks like it has changed slightly then and its just the ability to swap out that is not allowed.

I can see that hitting an army with even a fairly advanced single unit might be fatal, but any decent strategist should have artillery and air support to remove a few of those hp's first.

Hey Grumbold, it is nice stragety, I suggest you post it in strategy forum.

I also think that FRIAXIS should, for next patch, try to give us an option to disform an army, that way you could upgrade yours leftover units.

I also think that Dan talked with staff something about that, but maybe that was just to late (civ has gone gold)

The civlopedia entry for each unit tells what it can be upgraded to. To perform the upgrade, either go to the city screen or the military advisor, right click on the unit and select "Upgrade" (watch out - don't hit "Disband" by mistake....).

You need to have a source of any required resources to upgrade to a unit that requires that resource. So in the case of warriors -> swordsman, make sure you have iron or you're out of luck.

                        Hey, Dan,
if we can not unload units from armies, at lest give us the option to disform army in next PATCH (so we could upgrade these units).
Anyway it is unrelistic to have roving armies of legions in Modern age.

Errr, I think the word you want is "disband", not "disform."

I also think you should have the option of disbanding an army and retaining the units. The GL, however, should vanish in that case, requiring another GL or a Military Academy to make a new army.

Losing 4 tanks just because an army is disbanded seems outlandish. Unless...if an army is disbanded in a city, does that city get a production boost? If not...why the hell not?

bringing this one back to top...

with the patch released, is it now possible to remove units from an army or to at least upgrade them?
