WTF is up with this combat model?

I don't know about you guys, but I'd like an explaination on this fact.

I have seem regular swordmen take out veteran Knights, and I just got out of a game where my veteran Spearman was whacked off by a regular warrior, and the warrior sustained NO DAMAGE!

WTF is up with this Firaxis?

I've been a devout fan of Civ through the years, and this combat model is so crappy, I'd rather play CTP where at least the odds were proportioned correctly!

about that knight: since knight defense is 3, and swordmen attack is 3, it is rely not suprising to this think to happen.

Also about that warrior, I think it is OK, if it is not happenig frequently.
Chaces for that, I lost all hp and he lost no HP would be:
if he attcked: 0.33^4=1,2%
still if you attck warrior: it is 6,25% (you know spearmen has attack of 1)

ummm, yeah... I know what the odds are..
I also lost 3 veteran galleys against 1 regular rival galley...
and I've lost 3 swordmen against a single archer, both were veteran... and I was attacking.
the warior incident should not even happened.
it had a 33% of winning each round, yet my spearman had a 66% chance, and more hitpoints. The only thing I can think of is that the combat mode has gone back to Civ1 days...

Question, Who wants the Hitpoints and Firepower idea back in? That prevented this kind of ****.

Am am not sure (since I don't have the game), is a defence of Galley 2, and attack of 1?
