I haven't experienced the jerky scrolling issue the AVault reviewer had. It's not an issue of video horsepower (he had a GeForce3), but it could be the OS, WinXP. I remember BlueHooHoo mentioning a similar problem with XP. I'm running the game under Win2k.

The only problem I've experienced so far is with the opening sequence, which was jerky on a couple of occasions. My CD-ROM is a 32x, but is definitely getting near the end of its lifespan.

*EDIT* Scrolling through the "README.txt" file, I found this line:

If you experience movie performance problems on Windows 2000, replace the binkw32.dll in the folder you installed Civilization III into with the binkw32.dll located on the CD in the \Bink\Win2k folder.

I did as it said and the opening sequence was smooth as silk.

Of course it goes without saying that you should take the whole review equally, and not focus on one paragraph yet ignore the next one.
You are quite right. I read the couple of paragraphs on Apolyton news page, and it looked like AVault had slated Civ3. Having read the full review, it's clear the reviewer like it, and could only find a few bugs/strangeish features to pick up on. If these were fixed in a patch (esp making some of the art a bit clearer) and MP was included, I think it might have got 5 stars, or 4.5 at the least.

I'm still getting Civ3 and looking forward to it judging by all the views here.

That's an easy one... because Apolytoners would have told them straight up what was right or wrong with the game. Apparently they wanted to hear from yes men.
At least we now know why they were so tight lipped about prerelease info. I'd try to hide it too.

He may have some valid points, but war has always wreaked total havoc with a democracy. And as everyone has said, the endgame is always a pain. That's why you set some places to capitalization once you don't need to crank out units.

So, he has some decent points, but he is clearly not a hardcore Civ 2 player.

About the Cruise Missile thing, when I move them I tend to think of them as being transported, so maybe the Archers Jumped the Trucks or something .

US defense secretary Donald Rumsfeld (?): Its ok folks, were not firing those Missiles at the Afghans, we're just moving them into Afghanistan

It sure would scare the SH*T out of me if a Cruise Missile stopped above me, did a 3 point turn and landed perfectly

            EDIT
Read some more posts saw that the Truck thing had been mentioned, Sorry for repeating
