  • No CD Required!

I was suspecting that it wont need a CD to play since they where using MP3 files and no moives, but wont this cause loss of profit - if someone buys it they can just upload it to their friends pc . What do you think about this?

I think it is the same as Civ2. Where as you have to have the CD in the PC to start the game up. Then once you have the game loaded you can take out the CD and continue to play the game. At least that is my perception.
However, it is difficult to believe that 2 times 2 does not equal 4; does that make it true? On the other hand, is it really so difficult simply to accept everything that one has been brought up on and that has gradually struck deep roots – what is considered truth in the circle of moreover, really comforts and elevates man? Is that more difficult than to strike new paths, fighting the habitual, experiencing the insecurity of independence and the frequent wavering of one’s feelings and even one’s conscience, proceeding often without any consolation, but ever with the eternal goal of the true, the beautiful, and the good? - F.N.

You can do that in Civ 2? Cool, thanks - cause my Civ 2 CD is very scratched.

How many years has it been and you didn't even know that!

In SMAC you could do a complete install, so you would never have to use the CD. For Firaxis' sake I hope they took the Civ2 route instead.

Not with me. Civ 2 plays regardless of whether the cd is in or not. The cd is only needed for wonder movies. Ive heard that with the expansion stuff, you need the cd to start the game tho.

I have two versions of Civ2 and they behave differently.

The original 1996 release does not require the CD, but the later MP version does. I guess Civ3 will, at least when you start the game.

Nope Civ 3 will not require a CD, as long as its fully installed.

It wouldn't suprise me if the UK/Euro/Rest of World versions DID require the CD at startup. They don't trust us heathens...

Good news, then I don't have to look for a NO-CD crack

Anyway what exactly is wrong with a fat, hairy, deep fried mars bar eating man wearing a ginger wig and a skirt.

P.S. I preferred deep fried bounty bars with pineapple, much more civilised.

In 24 hours maximum there will be a no-cd crack available on the net. So that's not a big problem for those who want to play the game and listen to music cds at the same time.

Ah, if you only need the CD to START the game, but then you can put any CD you want in why would you need a crack at all?

Unless you're using warez version, in which case I think Ensemble should share their "if using warez then game won't play" trick with everyone else.
